Cyberlove: Paixão e poder na era da cibercultura

From WBS

This article is a case study of the Brazilian version of the global online dating site called Match.com. We analyze here how the site mediates relationship problems and intimate conflicts between men and women that emerge as a result of the incorporation of these conflicts into co-modified protocols of social interaction since the end of the 20th century. This first part of this article summarizes the findings of our reading of a sample of letters sent to the site. We then make an interpretive analysis of these findings, stressing their meaning as a sign to understand the power regimes underlying our cyberculture. Special attention focuses on its impact on the forms of sociability that develop on this new basis of the civilizing process.
